Inscribe the Word . . . February Scripture Writing Plan

I began Inscribe the Word Scripture Writing Plans in 2016, and every year, I am in awe of how God uses these plans to bring hundreds of thousands of people to Scripture. I am humbled and honored to bring this resource to you.

This year, our theme is The Spiritual Disciplines. By placing daily spiritual rhythms in our lives, my husband and I have decided to rebuild our lives around our apprenticeship to Jesus. You can read more about that HERE.

Each month in 2022, we will focus on a new spiritual discipline. I will also be including some books and resources to help you put that discipline into practice in your everyday lives. In January, we inscribed verses focused on Sabbath Rest. This February, our Scripture passages are on prayer.

My prayer is that you see these not as legalistic rules but as ways to Abide in the Vine each and every day. (John 15:1-8)

Inscribe the Word is a simple and effective Scripture Writing Plan that takes you through God’s Word. This year, 2022, we are starting a series on The Spiritual Disciplines. Join us as we inscribe verses of Scripture centered on PRAYER.

As we inscribe verses on prayer, we are taking the first half of February to focus on and study the prayers of men and women in Scripture. We start with Hannah and move to Hezekiah, Nehemiah, and David. Then, we close the month with Jesus' teachings on prayer and the authors of the Biblical letters.

Friends, the spiritual discipline of prayer has been essential to my walk with the Lord. Each morning, I wake up before the sun, sit in silence and solitude, and pray. What do I say? Not much. Often, my prayers come in the form of listening to The Holy Spirit. Sometimes, my prayers come through tears. Other times, I journal what's on my heart and give it to The Father.

Although I have been a follower of Jesus my entire life, prayer was never part of my daily rhythms until the last three years. As I reflect, I think prayer wasn't integral because I really didn't know how to pray. I would sputter off my laundry list to God, say amen, and go about my day. Prayer was this ambiguous semi-conversation between God and I that didn't seem all that powerful or essential.

TEACH US HOW TO PRAY

In Luke 11:1, Jesus was praying, and His disciples were with Him listening to His prayer. When Jesus finished, one of the disciples said, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples." I find that request fascinating. They didn't say, "Teach us how to preach like You. Teach us how to do miracles like You. Teach us how to raise the dead, cast out demons, and free the oppressed like You."

"Teach us how to pray."

The disciples were Jewish boys raised in Jewish homes. They knew how to pray. But apparently, when Jesus prayed, there was something so moving about His conversation with The Father, the disciples asked Him to teach them. "Teach us Your way, Jesus."

As we begin this month-long journey through prayer, may our heart's posture be . . . "Lord, teach us how to pray."

Please Note: We will be discontinuing our ITW Kids plans. The kids plans are exactly the same as the adult plans. The only difference is we chose one or two verses for them to Inscribe. Our hope is that families will Inscribe the Word together taking the time to talk through each passage. With this in mind, we believe it is best for parents and guardians to choose which verse(s) your child writes as you know best what they are capable of writing. Thank you for understanding.
