Inscribe the Word . . . September Scripture Writing Plan

Happy September, Friends!

This year, we are journeying through the Bible, discovering God's Promises. You can read our introductory post about why I chose this topic HERE. If you started with us in January, we have already inscribed 242 of God’s Promises. This month, we are set to discover thirty more promises of God in Scripture.

One of the verses we are inscribing this month comes from 2 Chronicles 20:17.
Let’s take a look at this promise of God together.

Inscribe the Word is a simple and effective Scripture Writing Plan that takes you through God’s Word. This September, we are inscribing 30 of God’s Promises. We will be studying The Promises of God throughout Scripture and seeing how they connect to…

2 Chronicles 20:17

“You do not have to fight this battle.
Position yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD.
He is with you, Judah and Jerusalem.
Do not be afraid or discouraged.
Tomorrow, go out to face them, for the LORD is with you.’”

WHO was Jehoshaphat?

Jehoshaphat was the fourth king of Judah and was one of the good kings. While he had moments of weakness where he trusted in foreign alliances instead of God, he carried out a program to educate his people on The Word of God and was a bold follower of Yahweh.

The Disaster Looming.

In 2 Chronicles 20, the nation is facing disaster. The Moabites and Ammonites, accompanied by Meunites, joined forces to make war on Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles 20:1) and the report was not good. In the natural, there seemed to be no way for Jehosphahat to win this war.

Although the news of these armies shook him, Jehoshaphat prayed. He went to GOD for help and ordered a nationwide fast. The country of Judah united in seeking GOD's help—they came from all the cities of Judah to pray to GOD. (2 Chronicles 20:3)

You can read Jehoshaphat's prayer in 2 Chronicles 20:6-12.

As they were praying, a prophet named Jahaziel was moved by the Spirit of God to speak. He told all the people assembled and the king, "Don't be afraid; don't pay any mind to this vandal horde. This is God's war, not yours. Tomorrow you'll go after them; see, they're already on their way up the slopes of Ziz; you'll meet them at the end of the ravine near the wilderness of Jeruel.

You won't have to lift a hand in this battle; just stand firm, Judah and Jerusalem, and watch GOD's saving work for you take shape. Don't be afraid, don't waver. March out boldly tomorrow—GOD is with you." - (2 Chronicles 20:14-17)

The Lord will be with you.

“This was a great mercy for Jehoshaphat, for a great multitude had come out against him; and it will be a great mercy for me, for I have great need, and I have no might or wisdom. If the LORD be with me, it matters little who may desert me. If the LORD be with me, I shall conquer in the battle of life, and the greater my trials the more glorious will be my victory. How can I be sure that the LORD is with me?

For certain He is with me if I am with Him. If I trust in His faithfulness, believe His words, and obey His commands, He is assuredly with me. If I am on Satan’s side, God is against me and can not be otherwise; but if I live to honour God, I may be sure that He will honour me.

I am quite sure that God is with me if Jesus is my sole and only Saviour. If I have placed my soul in the hands of God’s only-begotten Son, then I may be sure that the Father will put forth all His power to preserve me, that His Son may not be dishonoured.

Oh, for faith to take hold upon the short but sweet text for today! O LORD, fulfil this word to Thy servant! Be with me in the house, in the street, in the field, in the shop, in company, and alone. Be Thou also with all Thy people.” - Charles Spurgeon, Faith’s Checkbook.

As you Inscribe the Promises of God this month, my prayer is that you feel God’s presence around you, within you, beside you, surrounding you. May you know now and forever that He is with you.
